“I was feeling depressed after the death of my partner of 20 years and after feeling miserable for few months I decided to read out stories in our local blind school. Each day I spent an hour reading out fairy tales to small girls who could not see or read and it felt good to see smiles on their small innocent faces. We should help others when we are down as it takes our attention away from our problems and makes someone else life better.”

Your problems may seem big at the moment but believe me you will forget your problems if you take a look around and see the suffering of mankind. You may be unhappy about not getting promoted but hey! at least you are not in a city recovering from a recent hurricane.
Our problems seem insurmountable and if you think you are constantly thinking about them try lending a helping hand to someone in need. Charity begins at home. Try helping your wife in the kitchen or help your kids with the homework. If you are not married you can help old people either at home or offer your services to an old age home.
If you volunteer to teach for an hour in your local orphanage you will not only help children who are depending on outside help for their education but will also heal your soul. Giving is the best way of attracting good things in life and it immediately takes your attention away from your own problems.
Most old people are lonely and need medical attention. You can volunteer to read out stories to them or just spend time with an old person so he can simply talk and share what he feels. Taking an old man for walk near the sea will make his day better and will give a very satisfying feeling in your heart.
Local newspapers carry advertisements that announce need for volunteers and if you can’t find any look around your neighborhood if there is anyone who needs some kind of help. Start at a small scale, at a level you are comfortable with and see your life change magically in front of your own eyes.
