Anuradha: As a professional who has worked in many places across the world, how much importance will you give to emotional well-being?
Peter Allan Mariano: For me, I deem emotional well-being as very important, particularly as a professional who is on constant engagement with people and clients from around the world. Your emotional well-being is the anchor of your personality. It’s what gives you functional stability for whatever tasks that lie before you on a day-to-day basis. Without a sound and healthy emotional well-being, your performance and how you deal with people will be affected in a very detrimental way. A stable and healthy emotional well-being is one of the vital keys to professional success.

Anuradha: Do you think talking to a professional would help when struggling with emotional issues?
Peter Allan Mariano: If one struggles with emotional issues, seeking advice from a professional will help him/her deal with such issues. But for me, professional help is incomplete. One must also seek help from mentors and individuals who have gone through, and overcome, similar issues in their own lives. Learning through their experiences, their struggles and triumphs will help one gain valuable insights they need to deal with their issues.
Anuradha: What tips would you give to our readers for dealing with emotional issues.
Peter Allan Mariano: You are not alone. Seek help. Ask professionals for advice. Learn from mentors and others who have succeeded with their own issues in the past. Pray. You are not alone. Seek help. Ask professionals for advice.
Anuradha: Why do you think people hesitate to seek emotional help from experts?
Peter Allan Mariano: I believe it stems from the notion that seeking help from experts is a sign of inferiority. They don’t want to be stigmatized or branded as weak, inferior or issue-laden. They don’t want to let people see through the facade of pseudo-strength they built around themselves. They don’t want people to know they need help – until its too late.
